My Journey to Soldier Fly Farming

Almost 20 years ago a good friend of mine, Fred Gossen Jr, called to tell me about Paul Olivier. A gentleman in St. Landry Parish composting waste food with Black Soldier Flies. This is what happens when you're a second-generation insect farmer. If it involves insects, you can bet your friends are going to call.

I called Paul and scheduled a visit to see what he was doing. I was amazed at how the soldier fly larvae were ferociously eating the waste food. It appeared to be a ball of non-stop motion. At that moment I knew these guys were going to be Rock Stars of the Insect Industry. Fast forward a few weeks; and Hurricane Katrina is about to barrel down on my home state of Louisiana. What does a serial EntoPreneur do the night before a Hurricane hits? I buy the domain SoldierFly.com of course! After many years of hard work and countless hours of research, Soldier Fly Technologies is now taking flight. If you’re interested in launching your own soldier fly facility or currently have one that is not meeting its benchmarks, please reach out to us for licensing opportunities.
